Dental implants are gaining popularity today with the advances in technology and the evolution of the installation process.  Dental implants are a permanent solution for replacing missing teethDental implants are normally considered an alternative to installing a crown, bridge, or even wearing dentures.  It is extremely important that you have an experienced cosmetic dentist perform a thorough analysis of your dental condition to see if you are a candidate for dental implants.  It is important to assess the overall health of your jaw, bone density, gum tissue and surrounding teeth to determine if implants are right for you. It is common for dental implants to be used in conjunction with other restorative dental options such as dentures and bridges.  Often dental implants are used as the anchor ends to a bridge, providing an extremely stable foundation.  Dental implants are also used with dentures to provide a stable anchor which prevents the denture device from slipping or shifting during speech or chewing.

The dental implant is generally constructed of a titanium screw covered by a tooth colored crown.  This screw is surgically implanted into the jawbone of the patient.  Once the gum tissue has healed around a temporary crown, the permanent crown is then placed into the mouth creating a perfect replacement for the once missing tooth.  This process may take several months to complete, but through the use of the temporary crown, the patient will normally not need to go without teeth during this time.  It is possible to shed months off of this process if the installation of the implants is schedule at the time the tooth is extracted.  Your cosmetic dentist will need to determine if this is possible in your case.

Mini dental implants are similar to dental implants only smaller and thinner in size.  Normally mini-implants are used in tight fitting spaces or most commonly used to replace your incisors.  The installation for mini-implants is less invasive as the mini implant typically does not contain a screw.  Your Kent Family Dental professional can advise you of your options.
